Student SponsorshipA number of members of the church have been supporting nine members of El Cordero through further education. El Cordero, continue to be thankful to those who are regularly supporting the students sponsorship programme. Most families in the church would find it very difficult if not impossible to support their children through further education. So they continue to value the support of this project.
During the course of our visit we met with all the students together (with the exception of Christy who was visiting the USA at the time). They each explained the importance and value of the grants to them personally and how far they had reached in their studies. We had also visited the National University where a number of the students are studying and met with tutorial staff who knew both Miseal and Sarai. They spoke very highly of them and of the importance of the financial assistance that we were providing.
One of the students Rolando had partly provided the answer to the question of help for the next generation of students in the church. He said that once he was fully qualified through the scheme he would help provide funding for other students who would follow.
We currently support eight students:
| Misael Castro (who visited us in July 2005) – attending art school at the National University. The family have limited resources and he is therefore reliant on the sponsorship programme to continue his studies. |
| Ruth Cardona – Ruth was unable to afford to go on to further education when she finished college (senior school) in 1997. The grants received through the project have enabled her to continue her education and she is now in her third year. |
| Sarai Guzman – studying architecture at the National University. Sarai is in the 3rd year of 5 and participates in the sports activities of the University in a newly opened sports centre. |
| Maria Delia Garay – Studying architecture at the Polytechnic, just needing to complete studies in two subjects and will graduate in December. |
| Rolando (Tito) Orozco – Pastor Tito is studying theology at the UCA (University of Central America). In the past he has had to cover his own costs and the University has recently increased charges. Tito will graduate in December. |
| Lorena Clímaco – Studying accountancy, needs to work in order to help support the family, she lives with her mother (a single parent) and brother. |
| Rolando Barahona – Studying in IT at the Polytechnic (private university) should complete studies in December. |
