Soul in Didcot

Didcot love it or hate it, it is a place that some of us call home; and during the summer of 2005 some of us decided to do something groovy for it. Perhaps groovier than anyone had seen before.

That's right, it's was time to clean up the town, and that's exactly what we did, and had a mighty fine time doing it too!

So what the monkeys was Soul in Didcot, or SID? Well, we're glad you asked.
SID had two handy parts
1. a mahoosive clean up operation; teams of young people going around picking up litter, cleaning off graffiti, helping the elderly and bringing good news to the poor. Sweet!
2. A FREE festival on the last day in Edmunds Park featuring bands to rock your socks off to and speakers to challenge the way you live and think. Awesome!

El SiD was the brainchild of a couple of the Didcot Christian youth who are far too humble to have their names mentioned. They, along with a crack team of specialists, hanger-ons, layabouts, and people that have the sole purpose in life of making tea for others, have been working hard to pull together this vision.

It was inspired by Soul in the City in London and these wonderful people had a vision for bringing that event with it's heady mix of celebration and cleaning to our lovely town. The event now encompasses most of the churches in the town as well as help from The Baptist Union and BMS World Mission. Oh, and God has a pretty hefty hand in it all too...

Over the weekend the event involved loads of young people serving the community to show Didcot how God sees this world, that He cares for and loves Didcot and therefore, so do we. Being a Christian is not about being boring and stuffy, but about being free, free to live and free to love. the event also involved a great number of volunteers, helping to oversee the teams, the festival, the bands etc.

Bands! Yay! Who's played there we hear you cry? Ok, ok, settle down! I'll tell, I'll tell!
