The Foundation Stage of Learning

The Foundation stage takes children from the age of 3 years until they start year 1 at primary school and they have their own early years curriculum made up of six areas of learning each with their own Early Learning Goals. These areas of learning are;

  • Communication Language and Literacy including early writing, sounds and letters.
  • Creative Development including music ,art and  imaginative play
  • Knowledge and Understanding of the World including exploring and making skills
  • Mathematical Development  including shape space and number
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development including independence, confidence building and making relationships
  • Physical Development  including movement, co-ordination and health awareness

At Stepping Stones Pre-school we cover the Early Learning Goals  and steps, with topic based themes and a wide variety of activities and resources; These include-

  • Building and construction on both large and small scale
  • Books and Stories in groups and as individuals
  • Creative drawing and painting
  • Children’s computer with learning software
  • Imaginative play through music and movement
  • Large and small group activities
  • Number play and mathematical games
  • Outdoor play
  • Opportunities  for early reading and writing
